Bulk Assigning turns the org portal into an assignment surface for admins. Org admins can now see every published resource created by any teacher in their organization, preview it, and assign it to many classes in a single action — filtered by school, grade level, and subject.
What is Bulk Assigning?
Previously, getting a resource in front of many classes at once meant routing a request through engineering scripts — which is how the El Salvador and Brazil pilots have been served up to now. Bulk Assigning removes that dependency: the admin drives the assign directly from the org portal.
One bulk action creates one assignment per receiving class, and all of those assignments are grouped under a shared bulk-assign identifier on the backend. Teachers and co-teachers of each receiving class keep full grading and modification rights on the resulting assignment, so every class runs exactly as it normally would — regardless of who kicked off the assign.
Who is affected?
Org admins gain the ability to bulk assign. Teachers, co-teachers, and students in any class that receives a bulk-assigned resource will see the assignment appear in that class, working just like any other assignment.
Where to find it
A new Resources tab appears in the org portal under Assets, visible to org admins only. It lists every published resource created by any teacher in the organization — giving admins full visibility into what's available to assign, without needing a teacher to share it first.
The all-resources table
The table surfaces aggregate metrics for a selectable time window (defaulting to the past 7 days):
Total resources
Total views
Active assignments
Average engagement
Filters and search let you narrow the table by resource type, grade, subject, creator, and school — and your filter selections persist for the rest of your session, so you don't have to re-apply them every time you come back to the table.
Assigning to classes
Selecting one or more resources opens the Assign modal. In this first phase, bulk assigning targets classes rather than individual students. From the modal, you can:
Filter classes — by school, grade, and subject to find exactly the classes you want to reach.
Select All — applies to whatever set of classes your filters currently show, so you can target broadly or narrowly.
Configure as usual — set the assignment name, availability, due date, and other standard settings, just as you would for a normal assignment.
How the assignment shows up in each class
One assignment per class, grouped together
A single bulk action creates one individual assignment for each receiving class. All of those assignments share a backend bulk-assign identifier, which is persisted now so that a future management surface can be added later without any data migration.
Teachers keep full control
Every teacher and co-teacher of a receiving class automatically gets author and modifier rights on the resulting assignment — including co-teachers who are added to the class after the bulk assign already went out. Teachers can grade, edit, and manage the assignment exactly as if they'd created it themselves.
Staying informed
Bulk assigning many classes at once can take a moment to process, so Kira keeps admins informed along the way:
On submit — a toaster confirms the bulk assign has started.
On completion — a notification center entry reports the result, including class count and student reach — and flags any partial failures so you know if anything needs a second look.
Republishing a bulk-assigned resource
If a teacher republishes a resource that has active admin bulk assignments, Kira surfaces a confirmation before the update propagates — showing the downstream class and student reach so the teacher understands the scope of the change before confirming.
