Whether you're adding a handful of new users or bringing in an entire district's roster at once, Kira gives you the tools to set up people, schools, and classes without leaving the admin portal.
This article covers how to add and import people, how schools and classes get populated automatically, and how to manage members once they're in your roster.
Where to find it
Your organization's Roster tab includes two entry points: Add People, for adding users one at a time, and Import CSV, for bringing in rosters in bulk.
Adding people manually
Use Add People to add a single user through a simple form. You'll fill in:
Email
First Name
Last Name
Role
School
Class
Grade Level
Password
This is the fastest path when you just need to add a new teacher or student without touching a spreadsheet.
Importing a roster by CSV
For anything larger than a handful of users, Import CSV lets you bring in an entire roster at once — including multi-sheet files, like the format used for El Salvador's rosters.
The import flow walks you through five steps:
Upload — select your CSV file to begin the import.
Column matching — map your file's columns to Kira's fields, even if your headers aren't in English.
Validation — Kira checks your data and flags any issues before anything is created.
Error reporting — see exactly which rows need attention and why.
Processing — Kira creates your users, schools, and classes.
Once processing completes, you'll see a success summary confirming what was added.
What happens automatically during import
Schools and classes are created for you — any school or class in your file that doesn't already exist in Kira is created automatically, including custom class names mapped from either your CSV columns or Kira's own columns.
Schools are matched intelligently — Kira matches schools using the Google Places API. If no match is found, you can enter the school manually.
Duplicates are handled for you — if a teacher appears multiple times in your file for different subjects, Kira deduplicates them instead of creating multiple accounts.
Schools and Classes tabs
Once you've imported a roster, the Schools and Classes tabs populate automatically — no manual setup required.
Schools tab — shows every school from your imports, along with student, teacher, and class counts for each one.
Classes tab — shows every class created from your imports.
Managing members
Every row in your roster has a three-dot menu with quick actions for managing that user:
Switch role — change a user's role at any time.
Add to a school — assign the user to an additional school.
Remove from the org — revoke a user's access. Kira keeps an audit trail of the removal, so you always have a record of who was removed and when.
Quick recap
Use Add People for one-off additions, or Import CSV for bulk rosters.
CSV imports support multi-sheet files and non-English column headers.
Schools and classes are created automatically from your import — with Google Places matching for schools.
Duplicate teacher entries across subjects are deduplicated automatically.
The Schools and Classes tabs populate on their own after an import.
Use the three-dot menu on any roster row to switch roles, add a school, or remove a user — with a full audit trail kept on removal.
