The Goals Tab

Your students can set goals for themselves and choose which ones to share with you. Here's what the Goals tab shows, and how to get your class started.

What the Goals tab does

The Goals tab is a live board of the goals your students are working toward, which can be personal or academic. Each row is a student: their name, the goal they set today, and where it stands. A count above the board sums up the class at a glance.

Two things are worth knowing up front:

  • Your students control what appears here. Goals start in the "For You" section of their dashboard, where students add items for themselves. An item only reaches your board if the student marks it as a goal. Everything else they add stays private.

  • The tab is read-only for now. There's no editing, commenting, assigning, or reminding — students set their goals, complete them, and decide what's shared.

Get your class started with setting goals

The board is empty until students share something, so most classes need a first prompt.

Point students to the "For You" section of their dashboard. When they add an item, there's an option to mark it as a goal. That mark is the whole mechanism: marked items appear on your board, unmarked ones don't.

Two things students tend to find useful to know:

  • Goals don't have to be about coursework. Anything they want to work toward counts.

  • Nothing is shared unless they choose to share it.

Finding the tab

Open your Classes page and select Goals.

Reading the board

Each student's row carries a status pill:

Pill

What it means

Not set

No goal shared today.

Set

At least one goal shared today, none completed yet.

In Progress

More than one goal shared today, and some are done.

Completed

Everything shared today is done.

⚠️ In Progress describes a student's day, not a single goal. It only shows up when someone has shared several goals and finished some of them — individual goals are either complete or not.

If a student shared more than one goal, the row shows the first with a "+N more" cue. The full list is on their goals page.

Filter chips above the board narrow it to one status — useful when you want to see just the students who haven't shared anything yet.

The board updates itself. When a student sets, completes, or removes a goal, it changes here without a refresh.

Looking at one student

Click any row to open that student's goals page: their completion rate, how many goals they've set, and their full history, newest first, 10 per page. "Back to today's goals" returns you to the board.

FAQ:

My board is empty. Is something wrong? No, an empty board means students haven't shared any goals yet. Point them to the "For You" section of their dashboard.

Can I set a goal for a student? No. Goals are set and owned by students.

A student completed a goal, then deleted it — where did it go? Completed goals stay in their history even after they're removed from "For You." Goals removed before completion drop off the board entirely.

What does Refresh do? If a student doesn't finish a goal, they can Refresh it to bring it back into today's list. It moves the set date to today (and the due date, if it had gone past due) rather than creating a duplicate — so carrying a goal forward doesn't double-count it.

Why can't I see everything a student adds in "For You"? Only items marked as goals are shared. The rest stays private to the student.
