Inviting Students to Join a Class

Follow these steps to get your students added to their Class in Kira's platform.

How to Invite Your Students to a Class:

First, you'll need to create a Class. You can do this by using the Classes button in the left hand navigation panel on Kira and clicking the purple + button in the top left corner when you reach that page.

From here, you will be prompted with 1 - 2 ways to make a class:

  • Create a Class Manually: for those not using an LMS integration, or those with an LMS integration who wish to make a class for an unrostered group of students (such as an extracurricular or support group)

  • Sync Roster with LMS: for those using an LMS integration, this allows you to import your roster directly from your LMS.

If you use Sync Roster with LMS, you just need to select the class, and you're done!

If you use Create a Class Manually, you'll need to set a name and other information from your class. You'll then have a few options to get students, and any coteachers, into your class:

  • Share Link/Join Code: the share link can be given to anyone, including students without Kira accounts. If they do not have an account, clicking the link will prompt them to sign up for Kira as a student and auto enroll them in your class. If they have an account, it will just prompt them to login and then enroll them.

    • The Join Code can only be shared with students who already have Kira accounts. They can enter this using the +Join button on the student dashboard.

  • Invite via Email: enter an email and hit 'enter' to see the email with a checkbox next to it. You can bulk enter emails by copy/pasting in a list of emails separated by a comma and then hitting enter. For each email, you can select a role of teacher or student.

    • This is how you would add a coteacher or other adult to your class!

What to Expect:

  • After you invite students, you will see them listed as students in your class with one of three statuses:

    • Pending - this student hasn't accepted your request and may not have a Kira account yet

    • Inactive - this student is in your class but has not logged into Kira recently

    • Active - this student is in your class and has logged into Kira recently.

  • If you use an LMS integration, the roster of students on Kira will update as your LMS roster updates, so newly added students will appear automatically.

    • Note: Kira does not remove students automatically to avoid losing progress if an error was made in enrollment. You can manually remove students by clicking the three vertical dots to the right of their name and selecting 'Remove.'

  • If your students already have a Kira account, they do not have to complete the signup process again.
