What is the AI Tutor?
Kira’s AI Tutor is an AI tool that provides students with supportive hints when completing coding problems—it never gives away the answer. The AI tutor will nudge a student to give support if they have gotten several questions wrong without asking for help. It is both content and context aware, so it will respond appropriately to the specific work students are doing. It can even read handwriting!
The AI Tutor supports speech-to-text and text-to-speech, and will respond in whatever language the student is using. It can generate worked examples and practice problems and is meant to serve as your assistant in class. If students say anything that would normally be requiring of a mandated reporter (students threatening to hurt themselves, someone else, or saying someone else is hurting them), you will receive a flagged notification.

Choosing Whether to Enable the Kira AI Tutor
First, decide whether you want to enable or disable students’ access to the Kira AI Tutor in a course or lesson. This happens at the time of assignment, under Advanced Assignment Settings.
Note: Assigning a full course? When you first make this assignment, settings will be the default for the full course. You can change the settings at a lesson level under Manage Assignments, by clicking the vertical dots next to the lesson and selecting Modify Assignment.
It's up to you how to utilize the AI tutor in your classroom, and when to have it turned on. This can be an excellent addition to a '3 Before Me' protocol, a homework assistant, or anything else you may want!
