No integrations, no problem - you can still add your class quickly and easily.
Adding Students to a Section
Once you have created a section of a course for your students, the next step is to get the students into the course. There are a few ways that you can get to the pop up where you will add students, but we are going to focus on adding from your dashboard.
If you hover over a course section, you should see the ‘Teach’ button appear as well as a button with a vertical three dots. Click on this to get a drop down that includes ‘+ Invite Users.’ This is what you want to use to add students or additional teachers to your section!
Once you click + Invite Users button, you’ll get a pop up where you will first select your section (this is the specific class they need to be in!) and then will have a few options to go about getting students added.
Adding via URL: A Quick Way to Add Many Students
If you click the tab in the popup for Share URL, you will be taken to a screen with a URL that can be shared with students. When they click the URL, it will prompt students to create an account and enroll them into your course section.
This method can be used at any time to get students added to a course, but it’s especially useful when you have to add many students at once, such as at the start of the year.
In order to get the URL to your students, you’ll need to choose the flow that works best for your class setting. Some teachers will email the URL to their class, others will post the link in their Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, or similar LMS where they’ve chosen to share information with students.
Adding Students via Email: An easy way to add specific students
The first method that pops up with the ‘Invite to Section’ popup is the email option. With this method, you will enter an email address, select the role (teacher or student), click the plus, repeat as many times as you’d like, and then send to all invite recipients.
While you can certainly add an entire class this way, it may be more time consuming than the shared URL method mentioned above. This is a great method for adding a few students at a time, for times when a new student joins your initial roster, or when you need to add an adult like a co-teacher or paraprofessional.
Congrats - you’ve populated your section!
Whatever method you choose, once you’ve added your students, they are ready to learn and you are ready to teach. You’ll be able to see them in your Gradebook, and the next time they login, they’ll be able to see the course in their dashboard.
