Features & AI: what it is
The new Features & AI tab in Settings is where you control which tools your organization's teachers and students can access, and whether the schools or districts under you can change those settings for themselves.
How the controls work
Enable access — Enabled / Disabled
Enabled means the feature is available to the relevant users within your organization — teachers for teacher-facing tools, students for student-facing ones.
Disabled means the feature is completely hidden from the product for everyone in your organization.
Allow sub-organizations to adjust — Adjustable / Fixed for sub-orgs
This decides whether the districts or schools under you can change your access setting for themselves.
When you allow sub-organizations to adjust, that sets a feature to Adjustable by sub-orgs. This establishes the default setting, but sub-org admins can override it for their own level and everything below them, in either direction — turning an Enabled feature off, or a Disabled one on. Your value still applies to any sub-org that hasn't chosen to override it. If a sub-org does override it, that sub-org can, in turn, decide whether its schools can adjust the setting further.
When you do not allow sub-organizations to adjust, that sets a feature to Fixed for sub-orgs. This enforces the decision across every user under you. Sub-org admins see the setting locked and can't interact with it. If any sub-org had previously overridden the setting before you locked it, that override is revoked the moment you save.
If you've never set a value, the system default applies — Enabled for everything except AI Image Generation, which defaults to Disabled.
Exclude — grade and class exceptions
A small number of features let you go even further by excluding specific grades or classes even while the feature is enabled.
Those features are:
AI Tutor, which supports excluding either grades or classes
Automatic AI Grading, which only supports excluding classes, not grades
Your exclusions apply to every school under you. If an admin above you already excluded something, you'll see it in your list too — you can't remove it, only add to it.
When a feature is disabled, this section becomes an Allow list instead — you're naming who still gets access despite it being off org-wide.
Unlike Exclude, an Allow list can only get smaller as it moves down the tree: if the org above you allowed grades 9–12, you can allow a subset of that (say, just 11–12), but you can't add grades outside what they already allowed.

5. Literacy Studio

7. Navigation
Navigation settings only control what shows in the users left-hand menu — they don't turn a tool on or off. Literacy Studio, for example, sits under Create in the teacher view. Disabling Create hides that path to it, but Literacy Studio itself is unaffected — teachers can still open it elsewhere, and existing work isn't touched. To actually disable a tool, use that tool's own setting in its own category.
