Your First Time on Your Kira Account

Once your teacher account is approved, it’s time for a tour!

Updated over a week ago

✏️ Please note: We've recently launched Kira 2.0! Our classic Kira 1.0 features, like the courses under the Dashboard tab, don't interact with Kira 2.0 features.

You can learn more here: Kira 2.0: Learn About Our New Features.

Setting Up Your Account

When you sign up for Kira for the first time, you'll go through a quick onboarding flow that helps personalize your experience.

You'll be asked to:

  1. Verify your email — Check your inbox for a verification link and click it to confirm your account.

  2. Select your role — Choose the option that best describes you (teacher, instructional coach, administrator, etc.). If none of the listed roles fit, select Other.

  3. Find your school — Search for and select your school. If you don't see it listed, select I don't see my school.

  4. Choose your grade level and subject — This helps Kira suggest relevant resources on your dashboard.

Your Guided Product Tour

After completing setup, you'll land on your dashboard with a short guided tour — it only runs once, on your first visit.

The tour highlights four areas:

  • AI Creation Tools — Lesson Studio, ChatPods, and Assessments

  • AI Assist Tools — QuickGrader, Report Card Writer, and more

  • Featured Resources — Content matched to your grade level and subject

  • Chat with Kira — Your AI assistant with suggested prompts based on your teaching context

You can skip any step or return to the tour later from Settings or the Help menu.

Now, let’s dig into each page.

Your Home Page

From the home page, you can quickly perform tasks like building assessments, creating lessons, and grading student work.

The Home page is your daily starting point. It shows:

  • AI Tools — Quick access to Lesson Studio, Course Studio, and more. Select View All to see the full list.

  • Grading Queue — Assignments waiting for your review, with an overdue indicator when applicable. Select View All to go to your gradebook.

  • Recent Activity — Your recently created or edited lessons, courses, and rubrics.

  • Kira AI — Your AI assistant on the right side of the screen. Ask it to build a lesson, create a quiz, generate a study guide, or anything else. It also surfaces suggested prompts based on what you've been working on recently.

  • Discover Resources — Curated content matched to your grade level and subject, shown below the main panel.

Dashboard Overview (Kira 1.0)

View your courses and see what needs grading at a glance.

  1. Browse courses available to you.

  2. The top title is the course title.

  3. The smaller title is for the individual section. Think of it this way: if you're an algebra teacher, the course you teach is "algebra" and the sections you create are for your class periods throughout the day.

  4. Find various teacher resources to help you plan and deliver your courses with ease. Take a closer look at our available teacher resources here.

  5. Create new section(s) for a course.

Assessment - Build quizzes and assessments directly.

Evaluate

Gradebook is currently only relevant for teachers who are using Kira's computer science curriculum which still remains in the Kira 1.0 format.

Gradebook: Your gradebook shows your student submissions. From here, you can make any changes to grades and release them back to students.

Essay QuickGrader: In addition, you have an AI-powered essay QuickGrader to quickly assess writing against an objective rubric.

Classes

The Classes page shows your current class rosters and sections. You can view, edit, and invite students to sections from here. Think of a class as your course (e.g., "Algebra 1") and sections as your individual class periods.

Student Atlas

Student Atlas is Kira's student learning profile dashboard. It gives you an individual view of how each student is progressing — including skill mastery, zones of proximal development, and tiered support data.

You can access Student Atlas two ways:

  • Select Student Atlas from the sidebar

  • Click a student's name from your class roster under Classes

📌 Note: Student Atlas is currently rolling out. If you don't see it yet, it may not be enabled for your account.

Manage

From the Manage tab, you can add, remove or adjust sections, students, and assignments.

Steps to Remove a Student

To remove a student from your class in Kira Learning:

  1. Navigate to the Manage menu and select Students.

  2. Check the box next to the student account you wish to remove.

  3. Click the Remove from section button to finalize the removal. This process is typically straightforward and ensures that your class roster remains accurate and up-to-date.

Implications of Re-Adding a Student

If at any point you need to re-add a student who was previously removed from the class roster, keep the following in mind:

  • Any progress the student made prior to removal will not be retained. The student's progress will be reset, and they will start fresh.

  • Ensure you have documented any necessary progress data before removing a student if this might be relevant in the future.

Best Practices for Student Data Integrity

  • Always double-check the correct student account before making any changes.

  • Notify the student or appropriate parties about potential impacts on progress, especially if re-adding is being considered.
