When you first log into Kira, you'll be greeted by a chat right on the Homepage. You can think of it as your AI Teaching Assistant and Kira concierge, all rolled into one. As with many of our AI tools, we recommend treating this chat like a conversation.

Get Kira Help
The Homepage Chat is trained off of our help center, including articles just like this one! It has access to a wealth of Kira knowledge, so if you are curious about how to do something like making a lesson, you can go ahead and ask the chat. It will return instructions and often links to these articles where you can get more information.

Brainstorm on Content Delivery
Just like a good teaching assistant, the Homepage Chat can also help you to brainstorm on content you are teaching soon, whether that's brushing up on your own knowledge, thinking ahead to likely student misconceptions, or banking CFU questions to use in class.

Create Simple Text-Based Materials
There's a whole world of time saving tools built into Kira, and they can all be accessed from the homepage chat. You can call each one individually by clicking the + button followed by 'Tools', or you can ask the AI to conjure them up for you.
These will all create text based documents that can be edited, iterated on, and printed by you, or even exported as a PDF or doc to be shared with others.

You can reference Kira lessons to make other Kira materials! Let's say you have a lesson titled 'Solving Proportional Relationships' - if you asked the Homepage chat to make you a warm up for 'Solving Proportional Relationships', it would be able to check the lesson's contents to make a well informed warm up activity for you.
Create and Assign Kira Lessons or Assessments
You can also use the homepage chat to make Kira lessons based on prompts or instructions you give. Remember that a Kira Lesson can be anything - it's just a vessel for information and interactive components that you want students to see and work through. Create Kira lessons on topics, as worksheets, or even to serve as exit slips.
You can also use this chat flow to create Kira Assessments, a slightly more formal way to assess student learning!

After you make a Kira lesson, ask the chat to assign it to a class, group of students, or individual. You can manage assignment settings later under Manage --> Assignments.
Check on Student Progress
You'll notice that you can tag students with the @ symbol. Students must be enrolled in a class for you to access them, but you can then ask information about a students current progress, or assign work to an individual student directly.
