Finding Question Settings
When you look at a Kira Lesson, be it standalone or in a Course, you'll notice that many interactive components have a 'Question Settings' button in the top right corner:
Clicking Question Settings will allow you to:
Determine if a question is graded for accuracy or completion and how it should be graded
Set the number of points for a question
In the case of free response, essay, and coding, adjust the rubric that is being used for grading
Unique Settings for Fill in the Blank Questions
Fill in the Blank questions have two unique toggles under Question Settings:
Flexible Matching: when this is toggled on, students will get credit even if they do not have an exact match to the answer. This is great when spelling or semantics do not matter in answering a question.
Enable Math Input: when students click the box to fill in the blank, they'll get a math pop up that allows them to use math formatting, like adding radicals, exponents, or writing fractions.
Completion vs Rubric/Point Graded
If a question is marked as completion graded it means students will get credit for completing the problem, regardless of if the question is correct or not. This is a great setting to use if:
You're writing a "make a prediction" style question that doesn't have a right or wrong answer
You're doing a mood/pulse check/other question that isn't related to overall lesson content
You have an exploratory question where students are expected to try something, but not come up with a formal answer of their own.
If something is rubric graded, it means students are assessed via the attached rubric.
Changing Rubrics
You can view the rubric being used in Question Settings. Kira has several default rubrics that it will opt to when generating courses; for very unique questions, it may auto generate a new rubric. If you'd like to change the rubric, you can ask the AI to generate a new one, or choose a rubric from your library.
If you'd like to make a custom rubric, navigate to Create on the lefthand navigation panel and then select AI Tools. Click Rubric and create your Kira rubric. Created rubrics will live in your Library under My Resources.
Use the AI to Make Mass Changes to Points, Grading, and Rubrics
You may have certain requirements for grading that you want applied across a lesson. If that's the case, you might prompt the Ask Kira AI to make those changes for you. Consider one of the following prompts:
Set all multiple choice questions in this lesson to completion graded, and make them worth 0 points.
Go through this entire lesson and set all free response questions to be worth 10 points, fill in the blank to be worth 3 points, and multiple choice questions to be worth 1 point.
Check that all fill in the blank questions in this lesson have 'Flexible Match' toggled on, and turn it on for any that do not.
All free response questions in this lesson should be graded with [RUBRIC NAME] from my library. Please update accordingly.
Pro tip: if you want to be extra specific about using a rubric, you can grab the rubricID from its URL when viewing the rubric and use this in prompting the AI!
