This guide covers everything you'll do in Clever to connect your district to Kira: adding the Kira app, setting sharing permissions, and locating your Clever District ID.
Everything on the Kira side (app authorization, OAuth setup, and the connection wizard) is handled by Kira and your Kira customer success manager. Everything you need to do takes place in the Clever Dashboard.
Before you start, you'll need:
Clever district admin access to the Clever Dashboard
Permission to view district information (to locate your District ID)
Step 1: Add the Kira app in Clever
The Kira app gets added in one of two ways, depending on who starts the process:
If you're adding it: Log in to the Clever Dashboard, open the Application Gallery, search for Kira, and click to add or request it. The app will show as "Requested" or "Waiting on Approval" until the Kira team accepts the request and finishes setup on their side.
If Kira invited your district first: The app will appear with the status "Invited by app." Open it and accept the invitation from your Dashboard.
Step 2: Set sharing permissions
Once the Kira team approves your request, the app's status changes to "No Data Shared." That's your signal to take the next step: nothing syncs to Kira until you set up sharing.
On the app's Overview page, click Edit Sharing.
Choose a sharing type:
Share by District: shares everything
Share by Schools: shares only the schools you select
Share by Rules: the most common option; shares data filtered by criteria like grade, course, or section
Choose which users to share with Kira.
As you go, the status moves from "No Data Shared" to "No Users Selected" and then to "Launched" once sharing rules are set and users are selected. Because Kira supports SSO, the Kira icon will then appear in your students' and teachers' Clever Portal.
Step 3: Get your Clever District ID
Your Kira customer success manager needs your Clever District ID to finish connecting Kira.
Sign in to the Clever Dashboard at https://www.clever.com/.
In the left sidebar, open Data browser.
Your District ID appears at the top of the page. It's a 24-character string, for example
5f7c8b9a1d2e3f4a5b6c7d8e.Copy the ID and share it with your Kira administrator.
That's the only value Kira needs from Clever. If you get stuck, see Clever's guide to locating your District ID.
You're done
Once the app is launched, sharing is configured, and you've handed off your District ID, your part is complete. Your Kira customer success manager will use the District ID to finish the connection in Kira.
Troubleshooting
Kira doesn't appear in the Application Gallery, or your request doesn't move forward. Contact your Kira customer success manager.
Users signing in with Clever land in the wrong org, or no org.
Double-check that the District ID you shared matches the one shown in Clever's Data browser.
The Kira icon isn't showing up for students or teachers.
Confirm the app status is "Launched" and that your sharing rules include those users.
